INSTRUCTOR

MR BASKARAN NAIR has 22 years working experience in the manufacturing and service industries. He has served Engineering, Quality, Maintenance and Terminal Management, and has worked for British, Dutch, French, Japanese and Malaysian companies.

His exposure in the Operations and Quality Assurance has equipped him not only with knowledge in Quality Management, Process Engineering, TQM, TPM, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 consultation but also hands-on experience in implementing them. He is also trained in Six Sigma Green and Black Belt programmes. His experience has made him as one of the successful regional consultant in Asia, in terms of Operations, Quality, Safety and Health excellence.

In the service sector, he was responsible for Terminal Operations, including Project Management, Safety, R&D and Maintenance. He had utilised his knowledge on quality by implementing TQM and TPM in the service sectors, something that has not been attempted by many. This has resulted in outstanding performances in terms of increasing motivation of staffs, enhancement of equipment serviceability and record-breaking cargo throughputs utilising less than budgeted costs, which in turn had impressed customers. In recognition of his feat in equipment serviceability improvement, he was selected by his senior management to represent the country in an International Material Handling Seminar held in London, U.K. in 1999.

Baskaran holds a Bachelor degree in Electrical, Electronics and Systems Engineering from National University of Malaysia and Masters in Business Administration from University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, U.K. He has also qualified for IRCA recognised Lead Assessor certification in ISO 9001:2000 and is a graduate member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia.

DESCRIPTION

Increasing number of companies have realised the importance of providing working environment that is safe and healthy for their employees. They strive to prevent recurrence of accidents, and especially those who have implemented the OHSAS 18001 system would not even tolerate any risk avoidance. All these can only be attended to with systematic problem solving that emphasises effective root cause analysis.
It is often a common practice, either due to lack of time, lack of adequate information or knowledge (or both) that equipment and system failures are often investigated at a superficial level. As a result maintainers and operators keep running unreliable plant, causing repeated losses and become experts at fixing rather than preventing the problems. RCA is a structured, team based, analytical approach that when used correctly can alleviate chronic failure problems in a facility.
In this seminar, you will learn to apply several practical, systematic methods for analysing performance problems to uncover root causes. Your understanding of these tools will be reinforced by worked examples. In addition, you will explore effective ways of gathering data for root cause analyses, how to determine which problems should be analysed, and how to design, develop, and implement a root cause analysis program for your company. The effective use of RCA will improve the reliability of equipment and overall plant availability and this seminar will show you exactly how.
